Partnership with Korumburra Secondary
                               College

In 2008 Burra Foods commenced a 3 year partnership with Korumburra Secondary College, the partnership invloved 2 seperate initiatives; Project Reach & Careers in the Dairy Industry.

The objective of Project Reach was to offer an "experience" to students that would enhance both life skills and confidence. The first of these workshops were held in October 2008 for year 8 & 9 students.

The second of the intiatives "Careers in the Dairy Industry was to educate students of the career opportunities at Burra Foods, in a tight employment market, Burra would like to attract our local people to work in the dairy industry.

Burra  Foods looks forward to a long and rewarding involvement with the Secondary College.

Landcare project

In 2003 Burra Foods, working in conjunction with South Gippsland Landcare Network, established a wetland area at the rear of the Korumburra factory. This community-based project is creating a buffer between the factory and nearby Coalition Creek. This project is fully funded by Burra Foods and commenced in Autumn 2003.

In 2005 (see picture) the trees are becoming established and have transformed the area behind the factory into a haven for local bird life.

Picture Top Right: 2000 trees were planted in this area which has become a haven for water birds.

Landcare site in May 2008. What a difference!

The area is now lush with new growth and bird life. The creek is now protected from erosion.  The removal of weeds and planting of trees native to the local area has transformed the wetland area into a fertile breeding ground for indigenous birds.

In July 2005, Korumburra experienced its heaviest snowfall for 30 years, and the landscape around the factory was transformed into a winter wonderland (see pictures).

Water Warriors

In 2007 Burra Foods supported the Water Warriors program which ran in schools in the Korumburra area.

Focusing on school leaders year five to eight, selected students attended a two day workshop held at Coal Creek Historical Village. The students then created presentation which was delivered to their schools and at a gala evening in July.

The program was a tremendous success with valuable water messages in the areas of commercial and rural usage, water collection and catchment management being  delivered across the region.

We're pleased to report, Burra Foods will again support the Water Warriors program in 2008!

outward BOUND project

Back in 2003 Burra Foods sponsored a group of Year 9 Students to attend an Outward Bound Camp.
