Burra Foods is committed to caring for the environment and the local community by improving the local surrounds, decreasing water consumption and minimising our impact on the planet.
Some of the measures that Burra Foods have implemented are:
- introducing waste water separation streams which divides the water into recyclable water (to be used as grey water) and treatable water.
- installing recycling systems throughout the site, amounting to 180,000L/day of water recycled.
- modifications to process systems to minimise water consumption
- improved waste treatment systems
- involvement in community water saving education programs like Water Warriors
- donating grey water to the local sports ground
- implementing recycling of waste packaging and paper
- purchasing of 100% recycled products like stationery, paper, envelopes and cardboard packaging
Burra Foods is working on further improvements in the waste management systems. Other priorities include setting up a greenhouse gas emission monitoring program, investigating alternative green energy options and assessing solid waste treatment programs as an alternative to landfill which includes processing waste into products suitable for use as nature fertilizers.
