Burra Foods Partnership With Korumburra Secondary College
For many years now Burra Foods has had a partnership with Korumburra Secondary College, working with the teachers and students to give them a better insight into our company and promote employment opportunities that are available.
Each year Burra Foods Technical Department involves up to six year 10 students solving or researching an actual industry issue. Past projects included students developing a chemical spill response strategy & a Microbiology Project. Other partnership projects have included a hygiene demonstration for year 7 students,who had fun while finding out how easily bacteria can be transferred using ‘Glitter bug’, a compound that fluoresces under UV light.
In 2010 Burra Foods introduced a “Gap Year Student” program where a year 12 students spends 12 months working in our Technical Department as a Loboratory Technician. This allows students to gain some valuable experience in the workplace before starting at university.
KSC School Prinicpal, Lynne Hardy is an enthusiastic supporter of the partnership, “It is giving the students opportunities we haven’t been able to provide in the past…..to be able to work on agenuine problem is ispiring for young people, not just about the dairy industry but about science”
